If you are entering the job market after being unemployed for a long time, how do you explain the gap in employment of a resume?

1. Freelancing! Why not? I’ve enough Java skills! And I would put up for whom I freelanced (very truthfully) as well!
2. Volunteering! Hey, I was not “unemployed”, I was giving back to the society! Volunteering is considered a really awesome thing on your resume! Perhaps you can even present references of some people who you volunteer for.
3. Education. Nothing says better that you were getting trained just to apply to this big job, which is the one you are applying to :)
